Listen to the episode ↗

Adam Aizer and Heath Cummings deliver last-minute Week 3 start/sit advice, focusing heavily on weather (rain/wind) hurting the Giants-Titans and Commanders-Seahawks passing games, Caleb Williams' absence forcing Tyson Bagent into the Bears lineup, and a flood of late-breaking injury news on Brock Bowers, Nico Collins, Mike Evans, Zay Flowers, Rico Dowdle and others. They close with a rapid-fire chat Q&A comparing dozens of flex/streamer options.

# PLAY ACTION Deep-Dive: FFT Express Week 3 Last-Minute Start/Sit

This is Adam Aizer and Heath Cummings running through a rapid-fire Week 3 pregame show, mixing weather concerns, breaking inactive news, and a long Q&A blitz to help managers finalize lineups before kickoff. The central thread is caution: multiple marquee names carry real downgrade risk today, and the hosts consistently push toward the safer, more proven option in close calls.

The arguments

Weather is going to compromise the passing games in New York and Seattle, but the hosts weren't panicking about all pass-catchers. Heath flagged rain trending toward wind in the Giants-Titans and Commanders-Seahawks games, and both hosts agreed none of the four involved quarterbacks (Cam Ward, Jameis Winston, Marcus Mariota, Sam Darnold) were startable anyway. Heath said he'd treat McLaurin, Diggs, and Neighbors as more boom-bust WR3 plays in the wind, but argued JSN is more insulated since his targets come from shorter, quicker throws.

Brock Bowers is playable but should be treated as a mid-tier tight end given his questionable status. Heath ranked Bowers TE8 this week, acknowledging it's tough to bench him outright, and floated Terrence Ferguson (39% rostered) as a same-game pivot if Bowers sits, since Pucknukiua is likely out and Ferguson could see a target bump against a tough Denver defense. He was clear, though, that Ferguson slots two spots behind Bowers and behind Mark Andrews in his rankings even in a start-worthy role.

Xavier Hutchinson is a desperation-only flex play with Nico Collins out. Heath ranked Hutchinson at WR55, well outside his top 48, arguing that while Hutchinson will see volume with Collins sidelined and Houston banged up on the offensive line, he doesn't have confidence Hutchinson can do much with those targets. This is a fill-in play only when nothing else is available.

Mike Evans is going to play but remains a low-confidence, boom-or-bust WR3. Heath noted he's been down on Evans for eight months and has him around WR29, describing him as capable of a top-15 week or a 15-snap dud. This wasn't a hedge — Heath was consistent that his ranking reflects a real risk profile, not just recency bias from injury news.

The Ravens situation hinges entirely on whether Zay Flowers plays, and it reshapes both Flowers and Rashad Bateman's value. Heath said if Flowers is active but on a pitch count, he'd still start Flowers over anyone outside his top 30, but would sit him for a stronger option if available. He pegged Bateman at WR25 assuming Flowers sits, but said Bateman drops closer to WR35 if Flowers actually plays — a meaningful swing for anyone rostering both.

Running back replacement values shift with backups: Jaylen Warren and Tony Pollard both get bumps. With Rico Dowdle ruled out, Heath rates Jaylen Warren as a high-end RB2, similar tier to Chuba Hubbard, with better PPR upside as a receiver. Separately, if Tyjae Spears sits, Heath moves Tony Pollard into low-end RB2 range (around RB26, sneaking into the top 24), comparable to Travis Etienne, but capped there because of the Titans' offensive environment.

What it means for your roster

  • Bench/downgrade any WR3-tier player in the wind-affected games (McLaurin, Diggs, Neighbors) — treat them as risky flex plays, not locks, given the New York and Seattle forecasts.
  • Start Brock Bowers if active, but don't reach for him as a must-start — he's TE8 this week; if he's inactive, prioritize Terrence Ferguson over Michael Mayer as the pivot.
  • Only use Xavier Hutchinson as a last-resort waiver flex — don't trust the volume alone; Heath's ranking (WR55) reflects real skepticism about efficiency.
  • Play Mike Evans with tempered expectations — treat him as a boom/bust WR3 (WR29), not a locked-in start, regardless of the "planning to play" news.
  • Track the Zay Flowers game-status closely before locking Rashad Bateman — Bateman is a solid flex (WR25) if Flowers sits, but drops to matchup-dependent flex (WR35) if Flowers plays even on a pitch count.
  • Prioritize Jaylen Warren and (conditionally) Tony Pollard as RB2/flex starts — Warren is a strong start regardless; Pollard only jumps into must-start range if Tyjae Spears is out.
“He's a boom bust number three wide receiver.” — Heath Cummings

Players in this episode

Saquon Barkley · RB, PHI

→ Confirmed to play.

Caleb Williams · QB, CHI

↓ Out for the game, opening the door for Tyson Bagent to start.

Nico Collins · WR, HOU

↓ Ruled out for the game.

Brock Bowers · TE, LV

→ Questionable but trending toward playing, possibly on limited snaps; ranked TE8 and hard to bench.

DeVonta Smith · WR, PHI

→ Confirmed to play.

Colston Loveland · TE, CHI

↓ Heath says he's sitting Loveland this week given the Bagent situation.

Luther Burden · WR, CHI

→ Could see more targets from Bagent but is only a flex-level option at best.

Zay Flowers · WR, BAL

↓ Game-time decision on a pitch count; hosts lean toward avoiding him unless no better top-30 option exists.

Jaylen Warren · RB, PIT

↑ Expected to play and ranked as a high-end RB2, similar to Chuba Hubbard, better in PPR.

Mike Evans · WR, SF

→ Planning to play vs Cardinals; ranked WR29, a boom-bust WR3 who could see limited snaps.

Tony Pollard · RB, TEN

↑ Ranked RB26; would jump into the top-24 if Tyjae Spears sits, similar tier to Travis Etienne.

Rico Dowdle · RB, PIT

↓ Ruled out for the game.

Sam Darnold · QB, SEA

→ Starting and expected to throw a lot (27 attempts) despite weather; noted as a fun DFS play given last year's big game vs Washington.

Jalen Coker · WR, CAR

→ Expected to play.

Terrance Ferguson · TE, LAR

↑ Ranked two spots behind Bowers; could see more targets with Puka Nacua likely out, a start and top-10 TE.

Adonai Mitchell · WR, NYJ

↓ Legitimately questionable with Jonah Coleman on IR; managers should have a backup plan like Xavier Hutchinson or Kendrick Bourne.

Rashod Bateman · WR, BAL

→ Ranked WR25 if Flowers sits, closer to WR35 if Flowers plays.

Xavier Legette · WR, CAR

→ Game-time decision.

Tyson Bagent · QB, CHI

↓ Likely starting QB for Bears; not a fantasy start but expected to add rushing and could feed Luther Burden.

Xavier Hutchinson · WR, HOU

→ Heavily added off waivers; ranked WR55, only a desperation flex despite expected target volume.
