NFL Week 3 Player Props: 10 Best Bets + Anytime & First TD Picks (Ep. 2222)

Listen to the episode ↗

Chris Welsh and Andrew Erickson break down their 10 favorite Week 3 player props, leaning heavily into running back rushing/receiving markets (Judkins, Hampton under, Bucky Irving, Devin Achane, Chris Rodriguez under, Chase Brown) plus a couple of passing-yardage unders. They close with anytime touchdown picks (doubling up on tight ends) and long-shot first touchdown bets, while keeping their Jahmyr Gibbs anytime-TD rollover alive after two straight winning weeks.

This episode is the hosts' weekly locked-in player prop card for Week 3, pairing Chris Welsh and Andrew Erickson's picks across rushing/receiving props, anytime touchdowns, and first-touchdown longshots. The through-line isn't really predictive analysis for redraft lineups — it's degenerate betting content — but the matchup reasoning underneath each pick doubles as legitimate start/sit and streaming intel for fantasy managers.

The arguments

Quinshon Judkins is finally getting the workload to match the hype, and both hosts are all-in against Carolina. Erickson and Welsh independently landed on the same bet (over 59.5 rushing yards) after noticing his attempt total climbing from 12.5 to 15.5-16 on the week, against a Panthers defense that's allowed 173 rushing yards per game to backs. Both agree Cleveland's improving passing game is finally opening the box for him.

Pass-catching backs facing blitz-heavy or leaky defenses are this week's best prop targets. Erickson likes Jacoby Brissett... actually Rashad White over 2.5 receptions given Seattle's league-worst mark allowing catches/targets to backs and Washington's likely negative game script (93% third-down snap share for White). Welsh countered with Bucky Irving over 2.5 receptions against a Vikings defense that will blitz heavily, pointing to Tampa Bay's running backs already seeing eight targets last week against Chicago. Both frame this as a broader trend: attack defenses that funnel checkdowns to backs rather than chasing boundary receivers.

Funnel defenses cut both ways — some backs and receivers are being faded into unders. Erickson is low on Omarion Hampton (under on rushing yards) against a Bills front that ranks first in the NFL in stuff rate at 33%, noting both backs the Bills have faced this year failed to clear 60 yards. Welsh is fading DK Metcalf (under 51.5 receiving yards) versus Cincinnati, citing Metcalf's inability to clear that number in any game as a Steeler and Aaron Rodgers' general reluctance to push the ball downfield. Both also agree Chris Rodriguez is a non-factor in Jacksonville's passing game (under 0.5 receptions), since the Jaguars throw to backs at just a 12% clip, fourth-lowest in the league, with Bhayshul Tuten holding the passing-down role.

Tight ends are the touchdown market inefficiency of the week. Erickson is stacking Jets rookie Kenyon Sadiq (over 26.5 yards and anytime TD) with Mason Taylor banged up and Detroit's defense having already surrendered touchdowns to nearly every opposing tight end this season. Welsh countered with Travis Kelce (anytime TD, +130) against a Miami secondary he calls the league's worst, plus Pat Freiermuth as a longshot TD play given Cincinnati's bottom-ranked linebacker and safety coverage grades.

Game-script logic drives the two biggest "unders" of the show. Welsh likes Matthew Stafford under his passing total against Denver, arguing the Rams will lean run to protect a diminished Puka Nacua/no-Puka passing attack while Denver's secondary (fewest passing yards allowed of any defense this year) locks down Davante Adams. Erickson counters with Chase Brown over 63.5 rushing yards against Pittsburgh, noting the Steelers' offense stalls into three-and-outs, which should hand Cincinnati longer, run-heavy possessions — he flags Brown's career average over 100 yards in two prior meetings with Pittsburgh.

First-touchdown longshots reflect backfield roles more than narrative. Erickson likes Tony Pollard at 7-1 given four goal-line carries last week and a historically bad Giants run defense, arguing the odds are too generous for a lead back in a plus matchup.

What it means for your roster

  • Start/stream Judkins with confidence — his snap and attempt trend is climbing into a plus Carolina matchup; treat this as a bounce-back week, not just a bet.
  • Rashad White and Bucky Irving are viable flex/PPR streamers this week given funnel matchups (Seattle and Minnesota both surrender heavy volume to backs in the passing game).
  • Fade DK Metcalf's ceiling in season-long lineups if you have an alternative — the hosts see him capped by scheme and Rodgers' hesitancy, not just bad luck.
  • Stream Kenyon Sadiq or Pat Freiermuth at tight end if you're desperate — both are pointed at historically leaky tight end defenses (Lions, Bengals) with real touchdown equity.
  • Don't bench Chase Brown expecting negative game script — the hosts think Cincinnati leans run specifically because Pittsburgh's offense stalls, which supports volume even in a competitive-looking game on paper.
  • Chris Rodriguez remains unrosterable in PPR formats — zero catches through two weeks and a near-zero receiving role confirm he's touchdown-or-bust in Jacksonville's backfield.
“It's Quinchon Judkins week, but it's O'Mearian Hampton hate week here at Betting Pros.” — Andrew Erickson

Players in this episode

Jahmyr Gibbs · RB, DET

↑ The ongoing anytime-touchdown rollover bet is up about two units after back-to-back hits and is being rolled again this week.

De'Von Achane · RB, MIA

↑ Picked over 3.5 receptions based on leading the NFL in RB routes run, heavy target share, and expectation Miami trails significantly to Kansas City, forcing checkdowns.

Omarion Hampton · RB, LAC

↓ Faded under 61.5 (later corrected to ~16.5 in dialogue) rushing yards due to Buffalo's revamped run-stopping scheme (33% stuff rate) and Hampton's contact-seeking running style not translating against this defense.

Chase Brown · RB, CIN

↑ Picked over 63.5 rushing yards versus Pittsburgh, citing a strong rushing history against the Steelers and expectation the Bengals will control clock behind a struggling Steelers offense.

Bucky Irving · RB, TB

↑ Picked over 2.5 receptions, citing high snap share (71%), route participation, and expectation Minnesota's blitz-heavy defense will lead to checkdown targets.

Justin Herbert · QB, LAC

→ Considered for an over on passing yards/attempts given expected negative script, but ultimately dropped from the card in favor of other bets.

Quinshon Judkins · RB, CLE

↑ Both hosts are heavy on Judkins over 59.5 rushing yards versus Carolina's run defense, and both also picked him for anytime touchdown at plus money, expecting a breakout usage game.

Terry McLaurin · WR, WAS

→ Had multiple touchdown opportunities last week (reversed TD, missed target on a reverse) but still hasn't hit an anytime-TD prop despite volume.

Mike Evans · WR, SF

↓ Was last week's anytime-touchdown pick that failed after he was stopped at the goal line and later pulled from the game.

Tony Pollard · RB, TEN

↑ First-touchdown bet at plus odds, citing four goal-line carries last week without scoring and a very poor Giants run defense creating a strong scoring opportunity.

Christian Watson · WR, GB

→ Hosts noted he appears to have scored the first touchdown in all three Packers games so far this season, flagged as a notable trend though not used as this week's pick.

Matthew Stafford · QB, LAR

↓ Bet under on passing yards (~240 range) as the Rams are expected to lean on the run without Puka Nacua, facing a strong Broncos pass defense.

DK Metcalf · WR, PIT

↓ Faded under 51.5 receiving yards, citing poor QB play from Aaron Rodgers, low separation, and a tougher Bengals matchup; hasn't topped 51 yards in any Steelers game yet.

Travis Kelce · TE, KC

↑ Picked for anytime touchdown at plus-130 against Miami's weak secondary, with hosts expecting a vintage-style big game.

Kenyon Sadiq · TE, NYJ

↑ Picked over 26.5 receiving yards and as a long-shot anytime touchdown against Detroit, given Mason Taylor's injury and Detroit's history of allowing tight end production.

Rachaad White · RB, WAS

↑ Pegged over 2.5 receptions based on being featured late in Week 2 (6 targets, 6 catches), plus expected negative game script versus Seattle leading to checkdown usage.

Chris Rodriguez · RB, JAX

↓ Bet under 0.5 receptions, noting zero targets through two weeks and a clear early-down/red-zone-only role behind Bhayshul Tuten and others.

Jaylin Noel · WR, HOU

→ Not mentioned individually with substance (context: general banter only) - omitted.

Pat Freiermuth · TE, PIT

↑ Long-shot anytime touchdown pick given Cincinnati's league-worst linebacker and safety coverage, expected to be Rodgers' preferred red-zone target over Metcalf.
