Week 3 Matchups + Packers in Peril, Wheel of Shame! - Fantasy Football Podcast for 9/25

Listen to the episode ↗

The Fantasy Footballers wrapped up Week 3 matchup previews with a heavy focus on Thursday Night Football fallout (Packers offensive line collapse, Falcons blowout win) and injury news across the league, then covered seven more matchups including Patriots-Jaguars, Cardinals-49ers, Vikings-Buccaneers, Ravens-Cowboys in Brazil, Raiders-Saints, Rams-Broncos, and Eagles-Bears. The central argument was that offensive line issues and shaky quarterback play are dragging down several offenses (Packers, Buccaneers, Cardinals), while some backup/injury-fill-in players (Terrence Ferguson, Rashid Shaheed types, McKay Lemon) present buy-low or streaming opportunities.

This is the Friday matchups show, covering leftover Week 3 previews after Thursday night's Falcons-Packers blowout kicked things off. The hosts spend most of the episode grinding through seven additional games, flagging injury news, and building start/sit calls around backfield committees and receiver target shares — the throughline being that offensive-line and health chaos (Green Bay, San Francisco, Tampa Bay) is driving as many fantasy outcomes right now as talent is.

The arguments

Green Bay's offense is a genuine disaster, and it's not on Jordan Love. Love was sacked more than any quarterback through three weeks and threw 53 times because the run game produced 17 yards on eight carries combined from Marshawn Lloyd and Caleb Johnson. Andy and Mike agreed Tucker Kraft got plenty of volume (eight targets) but caught only four for 26 yards, including a lateral-style tipped ball, and dropped two passes — evidence he's still not physically right. The group's read: the Packers need Josh Jacobs back badly, and they should be 0-3 if not for a lucky Jets comeback.

The Falcons' offensive outburst validates Atlanta as a real fantasy environment, not a fluke. Bijan Robinson (194 rushing yards) and Drake London (194 receiving yards) both went off, alongside Matthew Golden (101 yards) and Christian Watson (96 yards, a touchdown). The hosts noted this reverses any doubt from Atlanta's first two weeks and reinforced Jason's earlier Kyle Pitts-for-London trade as a clear win.

Patriots-Jaguars splits the hosts on quarterback preference despite matchup difficulty. Mike and Jason both said they'd rather start Trevor Lawrence than Drake May even though Lawrence draws the tougher matchup, since May has nobody to throw to after losing Diggs, Boutte, and now A.J. Brown. On TreVeyon Henderson, the crew flagged zero targets on 16 carries as a real usage problem, though Mike expects volume to grow once game scripts stop being blowouts. Jason broke from Mike on Brian Thomas Jr., calling him a legitimate sneaky start against a Patriots defense that lets receiver twos feed off shadow coverage; Mike was skeptical given BTJ's poor catch rate last week.

Brock Purdy is now a locked-in must-start over Shedeur Sanders hype, and Jeremiah Love is a buy-low. Mike said he'd take Purdy over Shedeur the rest of the season outright, citing a touchdown rate over 7% that the crew doesn't view as regression-bound. On Arizona's backfield, the hosts agreed Jeremiah Love (58.5 combined yards on PrizePicks) is undervalued relative to Tyler Allgeier (64% snaps last week) and pushed buying him now, before he takes over the job, comparing the timeline to Bijan Robinson's slow rookie start. They also noted George Kittle producing (4/80/TD) on fewer snaps and preferred him over Kraft's low-value volume, while flagging Mike Evans (DNP Thursday) as a game-time call they'd still start if active.

Emeka Egbuka's target share is a real red flag, not just a bad-matchup blip. Jason and Mike pointed to Egbuka sitting at 17-18% target share, worse than Ted Hurst's snap share on the same team, and noted he hasn't hit 10 fantasy points since Week 10 of last year — a 10-game stretch coinciding with a 2-9 Buccaneers record. They pinned the blame more on Baker Mayfield's collapse (30th in EPA/play, missing deep shots) than on Egbuka, and said they'd still rather start Egbuka than Josh Downs this week, but view better Jalen Coker/Jameson Williams-tier options as preferable to Egbuka going forward. Bucky Irving remains a start despite the tough Minnesota matchup.

In Brazil, Rashod Bateman becomes a must-play if Zay Flowers sits, and Javonte Williams stays a must-start. The hosts said Bateman jumps their rankings the moment Flowers is officially out, and called Mark Andrews a viable tight end spot-start given 6-7 targets in recent weeks. Despite growing concern about a long-term Javonte Williams timeshare (with Chuba Hubbard preferred in a rest-of-season, apples-to-apples comparison), they were unanimous that Javonte remains a must-play this week as Dallas's workhorse in a high-scoring setup.

The Raiders are a live upset pick over the Saints, and touching Saints running backs is a trap. Mike called the Raiders' defense and Kubiak's coaching legitimate, projecting Las Vegas to win outright behind ball control and a return from Brock Bowers, while noting the sample size (Chargers, Dolphins) hasn't tested them yet. On the other side, the crew said Alvin Kamara, Kendre Miller, and Devin Neal form an unpredictable committee not worth rostering, with only Chris Olave and Brandin Cooks/Vele as reliable plays.

What it means for your roster

  • Fade Green Bay pass-catchers for now, especially Tucker Kraft as a touchdown-or-bust play — he's not fully healthy and the offensive line issues won't resolve quickly; the Packers need Josh Jacobs to stabilize the run game.
  • Start Trevor Lawrence over Drake May in any close streaming decision, and treat TreVeyon Henderson as a wait-and-see hold rather than a confident start until targets show up.
  • Buy low on Jeremiah Love now, before he clearly overtakes Tyler Allgeier — the hosts said they'd still trade for him even after a big Chuba Hubbard week, viewing this as a Bijan-Allgeier-style transition still in progress.
  • Prioritize Brock Purdy as a locked weekly starter over Shedeur Sanders in any dynasty or redraft quarterback debate; also start George Kittle over Tucker Kraft in any Packers/49ers tight end choice.
  • Treat Emeka Egbuka as a start-with-caution flex, still ahead of Josh Downs this week, but the hosts flagged him as a sell-high/downgrade candidate given the 17% target share and Baker Mayfield's collapse.
  • Add Rashod Bateman and Terrence Ferguson off waivers immediately — Bateman if Zay Flowers is ruled out, and Ferguson as a must-roster tight end with Puka Nacua sidelined again; avoid Broncos and Saints backfield committees entirely this week.
“Brock Purdy is a plug-and-play to me at this point.” — Mike

Players in this episode

Bijan Robinson · RB, ATL

↑ Rushed for 194 yards in the Falcons' blowout win.

Puka Nacua · WR, LAR

↓ Not expected to play again this week, boosting Davante Adams' and Terrence Ferguson's target shares.

Jeremiyah Love · RB, ARI

↑ Still stuck behind Tyler Algier in snap share (Algier had 64% last week) three weeks after an ankle injury, but hosts see him as a strong buy-low as he should eventually take over the lead role.

Drake London · WR, ATL

↑ Went off for 194 receiving yards, showing he and the Falcons offense are legitimately good, not just beneficiaries of weak week 1-2 opponents.

Josh Jacobs · RB, GB

→ Hosts say Green Bay needs him back badly, but question whether he can succeed behind this shaky offensive line.

Jayden Daniels · QB, WAS

→ GM Adam Peters said team is optimistic about a 2026 return; surgery and IR reportedly not on the table, with one report suggesting he could miss as few as one game.

Trey McBride · TE, ARI

↑ The only Cardinals pass-catcher hosts are comfortable starting this week amid Arizona's QB and receiver concerns.

Nico Collins · WR, HOU

↓ Did not practice Wednesday or Thursday, injury status uncertain.

Brock Bowers · TE, LV

↑ Expected to return this week, which would boost confidence in a Raiders upset over the Saints.

Javonte Williams · RB, DAL

↑ Considered a must-play workhorse this week despite long-term concerns about a timeshare once Jonathan Brooks returns (which hosts doubt will happen this season).

Bucky Irving · RB, TB

→ Hosts want him to get more work/easier completions but note he's not fully trusted in a tough matchup against Minnesota's defense.

Colston Loveland · TE, CHI

→ Hosts believe in his long-term talent but don't expect a breakout against Philadelphia this week or for a few weeks.

Emeka Egbuka · WR, TB

↓ Only 17-18% target share this year despite being a first-round talent; hasn't scored 10 fantasy points since Week 10 of last year, largely blamed on Baker Mayfield's poor downfield accuracy.

Zay Flowers · WR, BAL

↓ Traveling with the team to Brazil but has not practiced; uncertain to play against Dallas.

Davante Adams · WR, LAR

↑ Commanded a 42% targets-per-route-run share last week with Puka out, showing huge upside as the clear WR1.

DJ Moore · WR, BUF

↓ Downgraded to DNP Thursday alongside Keon Coleman being out; hosts say he may miss another week, making Khalil Shakir a better play this week.

Brock Purdy · QB, SF

↑ Hosts call him a locked-in weekly plug-and-play QB1 given his elite touchdown rate (over 7%), even amid 49ers defensive injuries.

Mike Evans · WR, SF

→ Did not practice Thursday but hosts expect him to play and would start him if active; part of a pattern of Buccaneers injury concerns.

Christian Watson · WR, GB

↑ Posted 96 yards and a touchdown despite the offensive struggles.

Tucker Kraft · TE, GB

↓ Got 8 targets in a shootout but caught only 4 for 26 yards with 2 drops, showing he's not yet back to full strength, though hosts still expect him to be great this year.

Kyle Pitts · TE, ATL

↓ Only 5 receiving yards despite the offensive explosion; host jokes he's still winning that trade for Pitts.

Jordan Love · QB, GB

→ Sacked more than anyone through three games due to a collapsing offensive line, but still put up decent garbage-time fantasy numbers (300 yards, 2 TDs) versus Atlanta.

Baker Mayfield · QB, TB

↓ Ranked 30th in EPA per play among QBs, overthrowing receivers consistently and failing to connect downfield, hurting the whole passing game.

George Kittle · TE, SF

↑ Produced 4 catches for 80 yards and a touchdown despite still-limited snap count; hosts prefer his production over other banged-up tight ends.

Dalton Kincaid · TE, BUF

↑ Called one of the steals of the draft, continuing to look great.

Jonathon Brooks · RB, CAR

↓ Hosts believe he is effectively finished as a factor this season even when healthy, since the team hasn't used him.

Tyler Allgeier · RB, ARI

→ Currently out-snapping Jeremiah Love (64% snaps) and expected to remain involved, especially near the goal line, even as Love takes over more work.

Makai Lemon · WR, PHI

↑ Ran 80% of routes last week, lining up all over the formation (backfield, slot, outside) despite a quiet box score; hosts call him a great stash given the tight end injuries (Dallas Goedert, Eli Stowers out).

Mark Andrews · TE, BAL

↑ Seen as a viable spot-start with 6-7 targets recently and touchdown upside if Flowers sits.

MarShawn Lloyd · RB, GB

↓ Struggled badly as the Packers' run game combined for just 17 yards on 8 carries; hosts reiterated the team desperately needs Josh Jacobs back.

Matthew Golden · WR, GB

↑ Had a big game (101 yards) for the Packers in the blowout loss.

Alvin Kamara · RB, NO

↓ Only put up 4.7 fantasy points on 15 opportunities (including 6 targets) last week; hosts say to stay hands-off the Saints backfield committee.

Khalil Shakir · WR, BUF

↑ Recommended as a solid PPR option this week given Buffalo's receiver injuries.

Terrance Ferguson · TE, LAR

↑ Drew 9 targets and a touchdown with Puka Nacua out, running routes at all three levels; hosts say he must be rostered and started over players like Juwan Johnson.

Adonai Mitchell · WR, NYJ

↓ Showed up on the injury report with a finger injury caught in a jersey; there's concern he may not play, which would mean more targets for Garrett Wilson.

Rashod Bateman · WR, BAL

↑ Would rise significantly in rankings/lineups if Zay Flowers is confirmed out.

Jacoby Brissett · QB, ARI

→ Dealt with a hip issue but was a full practice participant; struggled against pass rush, listed as start-worthy but not exciting.

Dontayvion Wicks · WR, PHI

↑ Hosts note his season stats (points per game, targets, target share) are nearly identical to Jayden Reed/other WR2 options, making him a startable player.

Case Keenum · QB, CHI

↓ 38-year-old backup with negative fantasy points in his last start (2023); hosts doubt he can move the offense against the Eagles.
