Who Should You Buy & Sell Before Week 4? Fantasy Football RB & QB Trade Advice (Ep. 2227)

Listen to the episode ↗

Ryan Wormeli and Andrew Erickson dig into Week 4 running back and quarterback trade values, highlighting Bhaishul Tuten and Chase Brown as buys while pushing David Montgomery, Jadarian Price and Justin Herbert as sells. They also react to the Bears' Monday Night blowout of the Eagles and run through two rapid buy/sell/hold rounds on tricky backfields.

# Who Should You Buy & Sell Before Week 4? RB & QB Trade Advice — Deep Dive

This episode of the FantasyPros Football Podcast splits the usual buy/sell format into a running back and quarterback-only show ahead of Week 4, with wide receivers and tight ends held for a companion episode. Ryan Wormley and Erickson (co-host) work through specific trade targets, framing every call around actual market value rather than pure talent evaluation, and repeatedly stress that some "sell" calls are more about roster fit and record than true pessimism on the player.

The arguments

Bhayshul Tutupu is a buy nobody is talking about. Erickson has been on him since Week 1, citing three straight weeks of 65-plus rushing yards, a clear lead role (48% snap share, no threat from Chris Rodriguez, LaQuin Allen, or Amir Abdullah), and a soft Week 4 matchup against Cincinnati. Wormley pushed back that Tutupu looks touchdown-dependent given minimal passing-game work (five targets on the season) and that his ceiling games have come almost entirely from scoring, not yardage — both hosts still landed on him as buyable in the RB16-20 range.

Chase Brown's poor box scores are a floor, not a ceiling, and this is the last week to buy him. Wormley argued Brown's RB14/22/30 finishes came against three tough run defenses (Buccaneers, Texans, Steelers) and that touchdown regression plus an easier back-half schedule should push his numbers up; both hosts noted Samaje Perine's injury as further upside. They flagged Cincinnati's Week 5 matchup against Miami as the moment his price becomes unaffordable.

Jordan Mason is a cheap, secondary buy in the same backfield mess. Wormley suggested treating Aaron Jones as a sell (unsustainable workload, offseason plan was always Mason as bell cow) and buying Mason off IR at a discount, especially from a 0-2 or 0-3 team desperate for immediate wins. Both hosts agreed his thumb injury is a low-risk buy window since it's not soft-tissue related.

Jaylen Warren... actually Jadarian Price is a sell despite the individual talent. Erickson laid out the case: fumbling issues, a 27% snap share after his fumble against Washington, and only 3 of 18 Seattle red-zone RB carries this season — a committee that's repeating last year's Ken Walker/Zach Charbonnet pattern. Wormley countered that the sell price might be too depressed to be worth it and floated Blake Corum as a smarter target given his standalone flashes and Kyren Williams injury-contingent ceiling.

David Montgomery needs to be moved now, even at a discount. Wormley admitted missing the ideal sell window after Montgomery's three-touchdown Week 1, but cited 1.7 and 3.0 yards-per-carry in the two games since, a 24.3% rushing success rate (second-worst among backs), and Woody Marks now stealing goal-line work. Both hosts agreed to use the Dallas/Tennessee matchups as sales pitches to a trade partner, while explicitly disclaiming that this isn't an endorsement of Marks as a buy.

Kyler Murray is the streaming buy of the week; Justin Herbert should just be released. Erickson's case for Murray rests entirely on facing a historically bad Miami secondary, with Justin Jefferson trending toward playing. On Herbert, Erickson called the Chargers' remaining schedule (Seattle, Denver, Kansas City, a healthier Rams defense, Houston, Baltimore) brutal enough that he'd rather cut Herbert outright for a streamer than hold him, ranking him QB15 rest-of-season and saying he'd still prefer Herbert over Bryce Young only reluctantly.

Quick-fire buy/sell/hold rounds reinforced several standing positions. Jeremiah Love was the unanimous buy after his role increased with Tyler Badie fading; Chuba Hubbard was called a hold with penalty-erased production actually stronger than his box score shows; Bucky Irving was a sell given Tampa's bottom-tier offense and Baker Mayfield's three-week absence. On Jacory Croskey-Merritt vs. Blake Corum, the hosts disagreed slightly on which is buyable now versus which needs an injury to spike, settling on Croskey-Merritt as the more affordable, immediately useful hold/buy and Corum as the higher-variance buy.

What it means for your roster

  • Buy Bhayshul Tutupu now if you have surplus receivers to deal — hosts value him RB16-20 with upside if his passing-game role grows.
  • Trade for Chase Brown this week only — his floor games mask a soft remaining schedule and touchdown regression; the price spikes after Week 4's Miami matchup.
  • Target Jordan Mason as a bye-week/needy-team throw-in while he's on IR; pair with moving off Aaron Jones if you're not desperate for immediate wins.
  • Shop Jadarian Price now, but consider Blake Corum instead if you're the one buying low in that trade — Corum has shown standalone value and higher spike-week upside than Price's red-zone-starved role.
  • Sell David Montgomery immediately, using the Dallas/Tennessee matchups as bait even though the hosts think that Dallas matchup is overrated given the Cowboys' banged-up secondary.
  • Cut Justin Herbert for Kyler Murray on waivers if available — this is a drop-add, not a trade, given how thin the QB streaming pool makes Murray's Miami matchup.
  • Sell Bucky Irving and treat Chuba Hubbard as a hold — Tampa's offense is bottom-tier league-wide, while Hubbard's per-play production is being masked by penalty-erased runs.
“I don't think he's going to have these top 12 types of weeks unless he probably scores.” — Andrew Erickson

Players in this episode

Saquon Barkley · RB, PHI

→ Averaged 5.5 YPC but limited receiving work and touchdown opportunities amid a struggling Eagles offense; hosts view him as a firm hold, unsure whether to buy or sell.

Drake Maye · QB, NE

→ Play has been bad but hosts remain hopeful due to an easier upcoming schedule than the Chargers.

Chase Brown · RB, CIN

↑ Struggled early due to tough matchups (Bucs, Texans, Steelers) but usage and offense are strong; schedule eases and touchdown regression should hit, making him a 'buy medium' before facing Miami raises his price.

Jeremiyah Love · RB, ARI

↑ Cardinals finally unleashing the rookie first-round pick, dusting Trey Benson for backfield usage; a buy target.

Bucky Irving · RB, TB

↓ Buccaneers offense is bottom of the league with Baker Mayfield out; Irving is losing snaps to Kenneth Gainwell, making him a sell.

Justin Herbert · QB, LAC

↓ Fantasy production has been non-existent facing a brutal upcoming schedule of strong defenses (Seattle, Denver, Kansas City, Rams, Houston, Baltimore); hosts recommend dropping him for a waiver QB rather than trading.

Colston Loveland · TE, CHI

→ Almost scored a touchdown, getting down to the one-yard line before Roman Dunzey's drop.

David Montgomery · RB, HOU

↓ Efficiency has cratered (2.8 YPC, low success rate) and Woody Marks is stealing goal-line work; hosts regret not selling after his Week 1 three-TD game and still recommend selling now, citing upcoming Dallas/Tennessee matchups as trade bait.

Bhayshul Tuten · RB, JAX

↑ Steady 65+ rushing yards in three straight games, clear lead back over Chris Rodriguez, viewed as a buy with top-15-to-20 rest-of-season upside despite touchdown dependence.

Jadarian Price · RB, SEA

↓ Fumbling issues led to a benching and reduced role (27% snap share); stuck in a committee with minimal red-zone work even with Zach Charbonnet out, making him a sell.

Chuba Hubbard · RB, CAR

→ Locked in as a bell-cow with production hurt only by penalties; viewed as a solid hold after hosts admit selling him earlier was a mistake.

Blake Corum · RB, LAR

↑ Suggested as a trade target for Price/committee backs due to standalone value plus league-winning upside if Kyren Williams gets hurt.

Aaron Jones · RB, MIN

↓ Productive but unsustainable workload while Mason is out; viewed as a sell-high before Mason returns.

Kyler Murray · QB, MIN

↑ Favorable Week 4 (Miami) and Week 5 (Saints) matchups make him a top streaming buy, especially with Justin Jefferson trending toward playing.

Jonathon Brooks · RB, CAR

→ Referenced as the reason hosts previously (incorrectly) recommended selling Chuba Hubbard high.

Jordan Mason · RB, MIN

↑ On IR with a thumb injury but expected to reclaim bell-cow role over Aaron Jones once healthy; a cheap, under-the-radar buy target.

Jacory Croskey-Merritt · RB, WAS

→ A big run was wiped out by a penalty unrelated to the play, masking a strong outing; hosts view him as a hold given his role ahead of Jacory White and upcoming soft matchups.

Woody Marks · RB, HOU

→ Getting more red-zone and passing-game work than Montgomery, but hosts caution against buying him given weak overall production.

Case Keenum · QB, CHI

↑ Third-string QB led a dominant offensive performance against Philadelphia, highlighted as a surprising spark for Chicago.

Khalil Herbert · RB, ATL

↑ Referred to as Khalif Raymond; continues to be productive with a touchdown, prompting hosts to admit he's a legitimate contributor.
