FFT Express - EARLY Week 5 Waiver Wire TARGETS! Tyreek Hill, Emanuel Wilson, Dohnte Meyers, & Others (10/05 Fantasy Football Podcast)

Listen to the episode ↗

Adam and Jamey run through their early Week 5 waiver wire targets across all positions, starting with a deep running back board led by Emanuel Wilson, before moving through a loaded wide receiver wire headlined by a potential Tyreek Hill signing and several Bengals/Bills/Rams options. They close with streaming quarterbacks, tight ends, and a strong slate of streaming defenses.

This episode is a rapid-fire Week 5 waiver wire rundown from Adam and Jamie on FFT Express, running through must-adds at every position before Thursday's claims process. The throughline is that depth is thin at running back but unusually deep at receiver, and several decisions hinge on injury news that hadn't fully resolved as of taping.

The arguments

Emmanuel Wilson is the top overall waiver target this week. Jamie says that even at 62% rostered on Sleeper and 36% unowned in CBS leagues, Wilson becomes a must-start back if he opens as Green Bay's lead runner against the 49ers. Both hosts hedge this on the unresolved Joe Mixon-to-Seattle visit and Zach Charbonnet's return timeline, and they agree Charbonnet remains the better rest-of-season hold even if Green Bay's backfield gets crowded.

The running back shelf is otherwise shallow, so speculative adds are justified. Jamie runs through Keaton Mitchell (reportedly getting more early-down work than Hampton under Mike McDaniel), Will Shipley as the Jacksonville injury fill-in, Austin Ekeler given uncertainty over Rashad White's shoulder, and Jalen Wright as a bench stash behind Ollie Gordon in Miami. None of these get full-throated recommendations — they're framed as roster-clog hedges rather than confident plays.

Tyreek Hill is the best long-term receiver speculation on the board. Adam argues that picking up an unsigned player is the smartest long-view move given Drew Rosenhaus's comments about ongoing team contact and reports pointing toward a Kansas City reunion, especially with Kansas City's receiver corps thinned by Tyquan Thornton's injury and Rashee Rice's hamstring. This is explicitly a stash, not a start-now claim.

Cincinnati's bench receivers are the best short-term replacement option. With both Ja'Marr Chase and Tee Higgins banged up against Jacksonville, the hosts single out Dohnte Meyers as the preferred Bengals add over Mitchell Tinsley, reasoning that Joe Burrow keeps throwing regardless of who's healthy. Both are only 1% rostered, making this a clear buy-low across most leagues.

Keon Coleman is now preferred over Khalil Shakir in Buffalo. Jamie reverses an earlier stance mid-segment, saying Coleman has outplayed Shakir across two weeks while DJ Moore was banged up, so Coleman should be the first man added even though both are rosterable. This is one of the only direct in-show correction moments.

Quarterback and tight end are matchup-driven streaming plays, not nothing-year commitments. Jacoby Brissett tops the QB list purely on the Lions matchup (noted as a universally favorable defense this season), with Kirk Cousins, Aaron Rodgers, Deshaun Watson, and Jameis Winston as secondary streamers; Tyler Huntley and Tyson Bagent are flagged specifically for Superflex/two-QB formats. At tight end, Mike Gesicki gets the top shallow-league nod if both Bengals receivers sit, ahead of Tyler Higbee, with Hunter Henry and Brenton Strange as lower-ceiling streaming options.

What it means for your roster

  • Priority waiver claim: Emmanuel Wilson, especially in leagues where Green Bay's backfield news breaks in his favor before Thursday — treat as a must-start if he opens the Week 5 lead role.
  • Speculative stash, not drop bait: Tyreek Hill is worth a roster spot purely on signing odds and KC's receiver injuries — don't expect Week 5 production even if he signs immediately.
  • Streaming claim for Bengals-needy rosters: Dohnte Meyers over Mitchell Tinsley if you're thin at receiver with Chase/Higgins banged up — both are essentially free adds.
  • Swap Shakir for Coleman on your WR priority list in shallow-to-medium leagues; Coleman's two-week role bump over an injured DJ Moore outranks the earlier Shakir lean.
  • Streaming-only at QB and TE: Jacoby Brissett (vs. Lions) and Mike Gesicki (if Bengals WRs sit) are one-week plays, not holds beyond this matchup window.
  • DST: don't spend FAB. Cowboys (vs. Bucs), Jaguars (vs. Eagles), and Bengals (vs. Dolphins) are the top matchup plays, but the hosts explicitly say there are enough viable fallback options this week to avoid overpaying.
“If Emmanuel Wilson starts against the 49ers in Week 5, he is a must-start running back.” — Jamey

Players in this episode

Makai Lemon · WR, PHI

→ Worth a speculative add after a season-high six targets.

Zach Charbonnet · RB, SEA

→ Still viewed as Seattle's lead back long-term, though a crowded backfield (Mixon, Darian Price) could get messy as the season progresses.

Kenyon Sadiq · TE, NYJ

→ Had a high first-read target rate despite the Jets running an historically low 32 plays; worth stashing another week in shallow leagues.

Khalil Shakir · WR, BUF

→ Still worth rostering but ranked behind Keon Coleman currently.

Tyreek Hill · WR

↑ Best long-term waiver add; reports tie him to a likely return to Kansas City given Chiefs' receiver injuries, with his own social posts hinting at a signing.

Keaton Mitchell · RB, LAC

↑ Two straight strong weeks; report suggests Mike McDaniel is pushing him more than Omarion Hampton, so he should be rostered everywhere.

Emanuel Wilson · RB, SEA

↑ Called the top waiver add this week; a must-start if he gets the start against the 49ers amid the Joe Mixon/Zach Charbonnet situation in Green Bay.

Jaylen Wright · RB, MIA

→ Still worth a stash for flex upside even though Ollie Gordon had the bigger game; Miami was splitting carries.

Tre' Harris · WR, LAC

↑ Top target in LA with Ladd McConkey banged up again.

Keenan Allen · WR, IND

→ Worth another look if healthy after missing time with a groin injury, despite a down week for Colts receivers overall.

Aaron Rodgers · QB, PIT

↑ Back-to-back games over 27 fantasy points, good spot again this week against the Colts.

Jacoby Brissett · QB, ARI

↑ Top streaming QB target this week facing the Lions, a matchup that's been favorable for opposing quarterbacks all season.

Keon Coleman · WR, BUF

↑ Preferred over Khalil Shakir right now; has stepped up the last two games while DJ Moore has been banged up.

Kirk Cousins · QB, LV

↑ Tough matchup vs New England but has played well enough to trust as a streamer.

Mike Gesicki · TE, CIN

↑ Favorite streaming tight end if both Bengals receivers are out, plus a favorable revenge-game narrative against a beatable secondary.

Mitch Tinsley · WR, CIN

→ Deeper-league option behind Meyers given Bengals' receiver injuries.

Dohnte Meyers · WR, CIN

↑ Preferred Bengals receiver pickup after a strong game vs Jacksonville, especially with Ja'Marr Chase and Tee Higgins banged up.

Austin Ekeler · RB, WAS

↑ Should be picked up broadly with Washington's backfield uncertain after Jacory Croskey-Merritt's possible shoulder issue.

Tyler Higbee · TE, LAR

→ Decent game for Matthew Stafford in his first outing without Tutu Atwell/Colby Parkinson; viewed as a streamer, not a true starter.

Darius Cooper · WR, PHI

↑ Has scored touchdowns in three straight games with a decent target share despite Philadelphia's messy passing offense.

Will Shipley · RB, PHI

→ Next man up with banged-up teammates in Jacksonville's backfield; best of a flex option if he gets the start.

Roman Wilson · WR, PIT

↑ Two good games for Aaron Rodgers and appears to be the clear No. 2 option, with a target total comparable to Mike Evans and Chris Godwin.
