Mike Washington
Washington is the Raiders' rookie backup to Ashton Jeanty, but the coverage treats him as more than a typical handcuff — praised heavily by coach Clint Kubiak and pushed by preseason tape (7.9 YPC vs. backups) that has hosts projecting real touches even with Jeanty healthy. As of Week 1 prep, he's a stash-or-start candidate versus Miami, with some shows projecting 25-35% of the backfield share outright and up to ~70% of snaps if Jeanty can't go.
The arc runs from late-August hype (Yahoo's Harmon, Establish The Run, Fantasy Footballers) built on preseason burst and Kubiak's praise, to a full-blown Jeanty-workload-scare narrative once Kubiak's public comments landed — The Audible flipped from cautious RB2-if-Jeanty-sits framing to outright recommending Washington start over Jeanty in Week 1. Not everyone's buying it: Waldman on The Audible dismissed the tape as scheme-aided rather than special, RotoWire flagged his 8th-10th round handcuff price as inflated, and Late-Round Fantasy's JJ called drafting him early bad game theory. FantasyPros' Erickson and Fitzy also split on ceiling — 70% snaps and RB2-or-better versus a more conservative low-end RB2 view.
The line: Roster him as the league's best handcuff and prime Week 1 flex-stash, but don't pay premium draft capital chasing the workload-split hype.
▲ The Late-Round Fantasy Football Podcast: On a small sample, Washington has better big-play rates than Jeanty and could chip into his rushing workload, but the Raiders aren't ready to expand his role (limited routes and third-down snaps) yet. listen ↗
▲ Yahoo Fantasy Forecast with Matt Harmon: Coaches said he's earned more snaps after a strong Week 3 showing; hosts see him as a must-add handcuff who looks more explosive than Jeanty and could siphon touches. listen ↗
